Staying Grounded Amidst Constant Change

While discussing Svāti or Swati nakshatra with a dear friend the other day, both as a natal star and current lunar transit, two themes appeared over and over again — chaos and grounding. The conversation made me realize perhaps I had misunderstood this star...or only seen it for half of what it represents.

Svāti is the 15th star of the 27 nakshatras, and to understand its energy, you must understand its deity: Vāyu (वात्). In the Rigveda, Vāyu is praised as the swift-moving lord of the wind and life-breath — unseen, untouchable, yet felt everywhere. Ever-moving, ever-changing, Vāyu represents the invisible force that stirs movement into all things.

Like the wind itself, natives with Chandra and other Grahas positioned in Svāti nakshatra (sidereal 6°40′ to 20°00′ Libra), as well as periods marked by this star, are often accompanied by sudden change, movement, fast decisions, restlessness, and at times a complete loss of control. Grahas well-positioned in Svāti are more likely to express its flexibility, speed, independence, and innovative nature, whereas challenged and krura Grahas can more likely express its harsher qualities — forcefulness, instability, disruption, and sudden upheaval.

Friends and clients have described periods marked by Svāti as chaotic, unpredictable, and fast-moving — as though life itself had suddenly changed direction. And yet, alongside all of this, another theme appeared just as strongly: grounding. Stability in the middle of uncertainty.

When Stability Does Not Mean Stillness

The essence of Svāti rests in understanding the nature of wind, but I realized the true meaning of this star would be completely lost without understanding its symbol:

a young blade of grass, blowing in the wind.

It bends. It sways. It yields completely to the gusts around it. But what does it not do?

It does not blow away — it is rooted.

And a blade of grass does not break — it bends.

The lesson of this star is not just about going with the flow and change. It is about groundedness.
